Winter Canvas

Scrapbook Kits, Toolshed KitTracie ShumanComment

Hello and welcome! I'm Vivian Lake and I would like to share with you my mixed media canvas using Lindy's Stamp gang limited edition January set of winter colors and many of the awesome embellishments found in the Winter Adventures kits.

This project is ALL about texture and color. I am a huge fan of Gabrielle Pollacco's work and this canvas is definitely inspired by her blog and videos. My media is nearly all sprays and textured paste. Soon, I hope to incorporate more types of mediums into my creativity.

The beginning:

I created the design using much of the embellishment and main Winter Adventures kit.

I added a few extra elements such as buttons, lace and cheesecloth.
I did not end up using the large lace flower.

Shown here is everything covered in gesso, both individually and together.

Here it is before I added bling.

If you are making this kind of canvas, it really doesn't matter what color everything
starts out as if you are covering it all in gesso and spray inks.

I did end up adding eyes to the wooden snowman.

Sending Best Wishes

Oh my goodness, will winter ever end?  I am still loving snowflakes on the day after St. Valentine's Day.  I have this great "Sending Best Wishes" that I dearly love.  It came in a Downton Abbey set.  What better way to show  it off than to add it to a card with beautiful snowflakes.  I used two of the snowflakes from the Toolshed Kit bonus chipboard.  I painted them with two coats of white gesso, allowing them to dry between application, and once the gesso had dried I sprayed them with the Kaisercraft Kaiser Mists in Denim and let them dry.  The swirl below was created with a very old stencil that I have for swirls, using Shimmerz texturez in Tidy Widy, which was featured in the Toolshed Kit: the Spiders Web Mixed Media add on. I absolutely adore the Shimmerz line and the three media in the add on kit do not disappoint!

All of these beautiful papers are in the Toolshed Kit:  Winter Adventures Fairy Garden Bonus Paper. This paper is so versatile and beautifully coordinated you cannot go wrong!  I have to admit I am saving the Earth paper for something special.  I'll be back next week with another card.  You have absolutely got to see the papers I will be working with next week!

In the meantime, happy crafting!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! It's Laurie here today, and instead of making a scrapbook layout, I decided to create some Valentine's Day cards using my Kisses and Snowflakes kit and I'm showing them to you here!

Jan18LLCard1.jpg

These were so easy to put together, and I love how they are not the traditional red and white Valentine's Day cards. I used both sides of the 13@rts Art Journey Destination paper because I thought the purple color was close to pink which was close to red which was close to a Valentine's Day color, and then the teal side ended up fitting so well with some of the other embellishments in the kit.

Jan18LLCard1b.jpg

I used a paper punch from my stash to punch out the shape from the purple side, and then inked the edges of all the paper with the Prima Ingvild Bolme Chalk Ink Attic Dust. Then I picked out which of the Kaisercraft Lucky Dip Wooden Flourish Pack - Love hearts I wanted to use on my cards, and I either covered them in the Nuvo Embellishment Mousse Lilac Lavendar or the Prima Ingvild Bolme Chalk Ink Island Lagoon.

Jan18LLCard1c.jpg

I had thought about using the Prima stencil as my sentiment on the front of the card, but then I realized that the Prima Zella Teal word stickers and ephemera had some of the perfect sentiments to use for these cards! And any cards, really. So I just used those. So easy!

And then I added embellishments from the Prima Zella Teal Butterfly Kisses pack, and voila! My cards were done!

These were so easy to put together. If you usually send out Valentine's Day cards and you make your own, then definitely get started on next year's cards NOW and use the supplies in your Kisses and Snowflakes kit. Starting now will make your life so much easier, and then next year all you'll have to worry about is where you stashed the cards!

Plus, the kit is so versatile, especially with all of those word stickers from Prima and 7 Dots, that you could make a variety of different cards for any occasion! It's not just about scrapbook layouts, folks.

Thanks for looking!
